Frequently Asked Questions
What are the stages of drywall installation or repair?
In either case, the first step would be removing the old drywall if necessary, and then measuring, cutting and installing the new drywall. Once the drywall is on the frame, a taper will start applying the compound, taping and sanding. The first coat of mud will take about a day to dry. Then we will come back to your house the next day to repeat that process, and then the next day until there is enough compound to sand down to a perfectly smooth finish.
How long will it take?
The time it will take will depend on the scope of your project. Installing drywall in an unfinished basement will obviously take a lot more time than patching up a section of a damaged wall. For a full basement remodel, the drywall process can take a week or more. Remember that the drywall mud will have to dry over night and the contractor will have to return to your property for several days to complete the task. When you book your job, Freddy’s Drywall will give you a detailed schedule on how long your project will take.
Who supplies the materials?
Freddy’s Drywall will supply all the drywall materials required for your project. We will also come equipped with the proper tools, supplies and safety equipment to do the job effective, efficiently and safely.
What do I do about clean up?
You do not need to worry about renting a dumpster or taking care of the clean up, the drywall contractors will haul away all unused materials and debris for you. They will also make sure that the area is cleaned up properly by vacuuming excess drywall dust and properly disposing of any waste.
Do you have to tape every seam on drywall?
All drywall seams need to have tape embedded in joint compound. The tape strengthens the joint, and the joint compound, or mud, is the adhesive that holds the tape in place.
Do you tape inside corners when Drywalling?
After you hang drywall, you tape and mud the pieces to form a continuous wall. Applying tape and drywall compound to the inside drywall corners gives them a smooth look. Inside drywall corners can develop hairline cracks over time, so it's important to do the job correctly.
Can you fix drywall cracks without tape?
After filling it, you must tape over the crack. The biggest mistake people make when they're trying to fix a crack in plaster or drywall is not using tape. If you don't tape the seam or crack, it will crack again in the same place. The tape can be paper or fiberglass mesh.
Can you tape drywall in one day?
The standard method of taping can take anywhere from 48 to 72 hours to complete (from the application of the first coat to the thorough drying of the third coat). That's fine when you're working through an entire house, but there are times when it's desirable to do all the taping in one day.
How long after Drywalling can you paint?
The 24-hour drying time recommendation can be applied to nearly all factors. Some manufacturers will bring down that number to 12 hours if a few shortcuts are applied to help speed up drying time without affecting the finished product. Filled-in screw holes and minor indentations can take about 2 hours to dry.
